15%
OF CHILDREN, AGES 6-19, ARE OVERWEIGHT
Sports Camp Mission: Pro-Athletes Motivating Kids, Building Self-Esteem
West Bloomfield,
Mich.
– March 6, 2009 – United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) findings give
Michigan
students an “F.” One of only nine states
with an obesity rate greater than 25-percent, CDC statistics put the number of
overweight youth at about 16-percent. Former Detroit Lions tight end, Eric Stocz’ is doing his part this
summer to stop the trend by bringing kids with weight problems together with
student athletes, pro-athletes and professional coaches. Stocz’ All Star Speed & Strength
Youth Camp 2009 is designed to motivate and inspire youths to build
self-esteem by fostering basic health and improving agility and overall
athletic skills in a safe and healthy environment.
By focusing on speed, strength,
flexibility enhancement, and specific skill development, children ages 7-9, 10-13, and 14-17, can look forward to inspirational celebrity
appearances and motivational training by professional athletes and
coaches. Past sports
celebrities included Detroit Red Wings superstar, Kris Draper. The camp takes place on June 28 - July 2, 2010. Camp runs from 9 AM to 2 PM daily at the
West
Bloomfield
High School Athletic
Facility, located at
4925 Orchard
Lake Road. Early bird drop off options are available for an additional fee. Tuition is $295/ week, and sibling discounts
are available. Parents and youths have
the added benefit of knowing that while they are in training, a portion of
their tuition fees will used to help another important cause, Gilda’s Club
Metro Detroit.
Eric Stocz is a certified personal
trainer and former Detroit Lion who founded the camp with West Bloomfield
Community Education and West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce. More than 300
kids, ages 7 – 17, are expected to attend and parents may register online at www.all-starspeedandstrengthyouthcamp.com.
Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit, located in
Royal Oak, is a non-residential community
where men, women and children with all types of cancer and their families and
friends can enhance the quality of their lives through support, networking and
education to build friendships, share the collective wisdom of experience, and
develop strategies for living with cancer.
